Upgrading - PCMCIA

Adding a PCMCIA card is easy to your laptop is easy! Just follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Open the PCMCIA slot door on your laptop. If you can't find it check your laptop manual for further direction.
  3. Determine what type of PCMCIA expansion slots your laptop has.

      Most laptops come with Type II and III. Older laptops come with Type I. Check your manual for further instruction.

  4. Determine the type of your PCMCIA card: Type I, II, or III.

      Most PCMCIA cards are Type II. Generally only the hard drives are Type III.

      Remember a Type I will go in any slot, Type II in a Type II or III slot, and Type III in a Type III slot.

  5. Gently insert your card in the appropriate PCMCIA expansion slot.
  6. Turn on your laptop.
  7. Run the installation software so your laptop recognizes the card.

Note that most newer PCMCIA cards are hot swappable which means you can unplug and plug in these cards when your laptop is running. Check your PCMCIA's manual for further information.
